Clubs and Activities/Holiday Clubs

Learning, creating and having fun beyond the classroom

At Thomas A Becket Infant School , we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our after-school clubs provide children with exciting opportunities to discover new interests, develop new skills, build friendships and grow in confidence in a fun, supportive environment.

We offer a varied programme of activities to suit a wide range of interests, from sport, dance and fitness to art, music, drama and outdoor adventures. Whether your child loves to perform, enjoys being active, has a creative imagination or simply wants to try something new, there is something to inspire everyone.

Our clubs are led by dedicated members of our school team and specialist external providers who bring their own knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise to the activities they deliver. Each club offers children the opportunity to learn through enjoyment, work alongside their peers and celebrate their achievements.

We are proud to offer a programme that supports children's physical, social, emotional and creative development, helping them develop important life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, communication, independence and resilience.

Club timetables, bookings and availability

Our after-school club programme is reviewed and updated termly, allowing us to offer a varied range of activities and opportunities throughout the school year.

How to book

Sign-ups for clubs take place through the MCAS app, under the ‘Clubs’ section. Club dates and booking opportunities are released in advance, giving families time to plan and choose activities that suit their child's interests.

We encourage parents and carers to check the MCAS app regularly for the latest club information, available places and booking dates.

Limited spaces

Please be aware that spaces are limited across all our after-school clubs. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage parents and carers to book as soon as bookings open to avoid disappointment.

Club availability, age groups, session times and booking arrangements may vary. Please refer to the information released each term for the most up-to-date details.

Free School Meals – free club places

Children who are eligible for benefit-related Free School Meals are entitled to one free after-school club place per term.

If you would like further information about this entitlement, discuss available clubs or find out how to access a free place for your child, please contact the school office by emailing office@tabinfant.org.uk. Our team will be happy to provide further information and explain the arrangements.

We want all children to have opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills and enjoy the benefits of taking part in our after-school clubs.

Important information: Start and end of term

Please note that after-school clubs do not run during the first or last week of each school term.

During these weeks, all children should be collected at their normal end-of-school-day collection time, rather than staying for their usual after-school club.

We ask parents and carers to make the necessary childcare and collection arrangements in advance to ensure a smooth end to the school day for everyone.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Reception children: Settling into school

We recognise that starting school is a significant milestone, and the first autumn term is an important time for Reception children to settle into school life, establish routines and build relationships with their teachers and classmates.

For this reason, places in our internally run after-school clubs are not available to Reception children during the first autumn term. From the spring term onwards, beginning in January, Reception children can access places in our internal clubs, subject to availability and the usual booking arrangements.

External club providers may offer places to Reception children during the autumn term. Availability and eligibility can vary between providers, so we encourage parents and carers to contact the individual provider directly to confirm whether their child can attend and to discuss booking arrangements.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we help our youngest pupils enjoy a positive start to school while providing opportunities to participate in after-school activities when appropriate.

Zumba Club – Mondays

Zumba Club is a lively, energetic and enjoyable way for children to get moving! Through music, dance and fun routines, children can explore different movements, develop coordination and improve their fitness while having lots of fun.

The sessions encourage children to express themselves through movement, build confidence and enjoy being active in a relaxed and supportive environment. There is no need to be an experienced dancer — the emphasis is on participation, enjoyment and giving things a go.

Zumba provides a wonderful opportunity for children to let off steam after the school day, develop a positive attitude towards physical activity and enjoy sharing the experience with their friends.

Fun in the Forest – Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

Fun in the Forest gives children the opportunity to explore, play and learn in the natural environment. Through outdoor adventures, nature-based activities and imaginative play, children can develop their curiosity, creativity and confidence while enjoying the benefits of learning outdoors.

The sessions encourage children to discover the world around them, work collaboratively and develop important skills such as problem-solving, communication, independence and resilience. From exploring natural materials to taking part in outdoor challenges, children are encouraged to ask questions, use their imaginations and learn through first-hand experiences.

Spending time outdoors also provides valuable opportunities for children to appreciate nature, develop physical coordination and build positive relationships with their peers.

Our Fun in the Forest sessions take place on the following days:

  • Tuesday – Year 1

  • Wednesday – Year 1

  • Thursday – Year 2

Fun in the Forest is a wonderful opportunity for children to step outside the classroom, embrace their natural curiosity and enjoy learning through outdoor exploration and play.

Art Club helps children develop concentration, patience, fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities. It also encourages them to build confidence in their own creativity, take pride in their work and appreciate the different ideas and approaches of others.

There is no single right way to create art. Children are encouraged to embrace their individuality, try new things and enjoy the creative process.

Art Club is a wonderful opportunity for children to get creative, develop new skills and let their imaginations flourish every Tuesday!

Choir Club – Thursdays (Year 1 and Year 2)

Choir Club offers children in Year 1 and Year 2 the opportunity to discover the joy of singing together. Taking place on Thursdays, choir provides a fun and welcoming environment where children can explore music, learn new songs and develop their confidence through singing.

Children have the opportunity to learn melodies, practise rhythm and develop their listening skills while discovering the enjoyment of making music as part of a group. Singing together encourages children to listen carefully, concentrate and work collaboratively towards a shared goal.

Most importantly, Choir Club is about having fun, building friendships and discovering that every voice matters. Whether children already love singing or are trying it for the first time, they are encouraged to join in, give it a go and enjoy making music together.

We are delighted to welcome specialist external providers who bring additional skills, experience and enthusiasm to our after-school programme. These clubs offer children further opportunities to explore their interests, learn from specialist instructors and develop new talents.
